This beautiful northern lake has over 135 islands, 5 rivers flow into it from the south and 1 river, the River Duparquet, flows north towards Lac Abitibi. From the middle of May to the end of June, it's a fishers paradise, many people come up from southern Ontario & the United States. Later,in the hot summer months, July & August we have adventure enthusiasts who explore the lake and islands on canoes & kayaks. The middle of August and the beginning of September are special times in the north,we have the most spectacular show of stars, shooting stars and northern lights. Sometimesthe sky is so full of them, its like Disneyland ! |
After summer, in October comes the hunting season. Lac Duparquet and its surroundings is a hive of moose & bear hunters. If big game is not for you, why not try partridge or duck hunting ? At the end of November and early December, the lake freezes over, just before Christmas residents start putting their ice-fishing huts on the lake. In Québec, you are allowed 5 holes per permit. January, February and March is snow, snow and snow; winter at its best ! April and early May is usually quiet: the lake starts to thaw, ducks make their nests and mate, the herons fly into start their breeding cycle. Our bald eagles return to their summer homes and start to renovate and extend their nests of previous years, nature busy at work for the next seven months... |
